Your Home Has Outgrown Its Electrical Panel
Drive through Glendora, San Dimas, or La Verne, and you’ll see plenty of ranch homes built in the 1950s and ’60s. Many still run on the 60- or 100-amp panel they were built with. Those panels were sized for a fridge, a TV, and a few lamps. They were never meant for central air running through a 105° September, an EV charging in the garage, an induction range, and a home office all at once.
When demand outpaces your panel, you get tripped breakers, dimming lights, and wiring that runs hotter than it should. An electrical panel upgrade fixes that at the source. It gives your home the capacity it needs now, plus room for the EV charger, heat pump, or ADU you may add later.
At Pro Electric Services, owner and licensed electrician Jack Yaacoubian handles every panel upgrade personally. From the first assessment to the final city inspection, you work with one person who knows your home and stands behind the job.
8 Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Electrical Panel
Not sure if you need a new panel? These are the warning signs Jack sees most often in San Gabriel Valley homes.
Breakers Trip Often
Especially when the AC, microwave, or dryer kicks on.
Lights Dim or Flicker
Noticeable when a large appliance starts up.
You Have 60- or 100-Amp Service
Most modern homes need 200 amps.
Federal Pacific, Zinsco or Challenger Panel
These brands are linked to breakers that fail to trip, and many insurers flag them.
You Still Have a Fuse Box
Fuses belong to an era of far smaller electrical loads.
The Panel Is Warm, Buzzing or Smells Hot
Treat this as an emergency and call right away.
Rust, Scorch Marks or Corrosion
Visible damage on the panel or breakers.
You’re Adding a Big Load
An EV charger, a heat pump, a spa, or an ADU.

How Much Does a Panel Upgrade Cost in Glendora?
Every home is different, so we quote after we’ve seen yours. Your price depends on:
- The amperage you’re moving to (for example, 100A to 200A)
- Whether the meter base and service entrance also need replacing
- Overhead vs. underground service from the utility
- How far the panel is moving, if it’s being relocated
- Code corrections needed, such as grounding, bonding, or AFCI/GFCI protection
- City permit fees and utility requirements
Permits Done Right, Every Time
Every panel upgrade in California needs a permit and a city inspection. Some contractors skip this to save a few dollars. It can come back to haunt you when you sell your home or file an insurance claim. We handle all of the paperwork, so you don’t have to.
Ask About Rebates
Some California electrification programs have offered incentives for panel upgrades tied to heat pumps or EV chargers. Availability changes often, so ask Jack what’s current when you book your assessment.

Electrical Panel Upgrade FAQs
How long does a panel upgrade take?
Most residential upgrades take one day, with power off for about 6–8 hours. Permits and utility scheduling usually add a week or two before install day.
Do I need a 200-amp panel?
If you have central AC, an electric range or dryer, or plan to add an EV charger or a heat pump, 200 amps is usually the right size. A load calculation tells us for sure.
Can I charge an EV on a 100-amp panel?
Sometimes, with load management. But many older homes need an upgrade first. We’ll check your load and give you an honest answer.
Is my Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel dangerous?
These panels are known for breakers that may not trip during an overload. We recommend replacing them, and many insurance companies agree.
Do you pull permits?
Yes, on every panel upgrade. We also schedule and attend the city inspection.
Will I need to be home during the work?
Someone should be there at the start and for the final walkthrough. Most homeowners plan around a day without power.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Every job comes with our 1-year workmanship guarantee.
