The Wiring Behind Your Walls Is Older Than You Think
Much of Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Azusa was built during the post-war housing boom. Those mid-century homes have great bones. But many still run on wiring that’s 60 or 70 years old: cloth-insulated cable, ungrounded two-prong outlets, and in some older Pasadena homes, knob-and-tube.
Wiring insulation breaks down with age and with years of attic heat through hot Southern California summers. Add the loads a modern family puts on a home, and old wiring can overheat, arc, or fail without warning. Home rewiring replaces that aging wiring with modern, grounded circuits built to today’s California Electrical Code.
At Pro Electric Services, owner Jack Yaacoubian has spent more than 30 years working in homes just like yours. He plans and completes every rewiring job himself, with care for your walls, your schedule, and your budget.
9 Signs Your Home Needs Rewiring
Built Before 1970, Never Rewired
Original wiring that has never been replaced is well past its design life.
Two-Prong Outlets
Usually means there is no ground wire anywhere in the circuit.
Knob-and-Tube or Cloth-Covered Wiring
Visible in the attic or crawlspace of many pre-war homes.
Aluminum Branch Wiring
Common in homes built from the mid-1960s to the early ’70s.
Warm, Discolored or Sparking Outlets
Heat or sparks at a receptacle point to failing connections.
Lights Flicker or Dim
With no obvious cause, the problem is usually in the wiring.
Breakers Trip or Fuses Blow Often
A sign the circuits can no longer carry what you are asking of them.
Burning Plastic Smell
Near outlets, switches, or the panel. Treat this as urgent.
Remodel, ADU or Pending Sale
Or an inspection report that flagged your wiring.
Burning Smell or Scorch Marks?
It’s time to act now. Shut off the circuit at the breaker and call our 24/7 emergency line: 818-355-3488.
Home Rewiring Services We Offer
Complete Home Rewiring
Full replacement of old branch wiring with modern, grounded copper circuits, from outlets and switches back to the panel.
Partial Rewiring
Not every home needs a full rewire. We target the problem areas, such as the kitchen, a room addition, or a bad run of circuits, and leave sound wiring in place.
Knob-and-Tube Replacement
We safely take old knob-and-tube circuits out of service and replace them with modern wiring. That helps with safety, insurance, and resale.
Grounding & Two-Prong Outlet Upgrades
We install ground wires and grounding improvements, then replace two-prong outlets with grounded three-prong outlets or GFCI protection that meets code.
Aluminum Wiring Repair
We make aluminum branch-wiring connections safe with approved repair methods, or replace the wiring where it makes more sense.
Remodel & ADU Wiring
We wire kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and ADUs to current code, and coordinate with your contractor and inspector.
Load Evaluation
Adding an EV charger, a heat pump, or an addition? We check whether your wiring and panel can handle it.
How Home Rewiring Works
Wiring Inspection
Jack checks your panel, attic, crawlspace, outlets, and switches to see what type of wiring you have and what shape it is in.
Honest Recommendation
You’ll hear whether you need a full rewire, a partial rewire, or just targeted repairs. We never oversell.
Written Quote & Schedule
One clear price, a room-by-room plan, and a schedule built around your household.
Permit
We pull the city permit for every rewiring job.
Rewiring
New wiring runs through attics, crawlspaces, and walls with small, neat openings. Most homes keep power in the rooms we’re not working on, so you can usually stay in the house.
Inspection
We meet the city inspector before the walls are closed, and again for final sign-off.
07 Patch & Walkthrough
We close the access openings, test every circuit, and walk you through the work. Your 1-year workmanship guarantee starts that day.
How Much Does It Cost to Rewire a House in Glendora?
Rewiring costs vary a lot from home to home. That’s why we quote only after an inspection. Your price depends on:
- Square footage and number of circuits
- Full vs. partial rewiring
- Attic and crawlspace access (single-story ranch homes are often easier)
- Wall and ceiling materials, such as drywall or plaster and lath
- Whether a panel upgrade is needed at the same time
- Permit fees and code upgrades, such as AFCI, GFCI, and smoke alarm circuits
Rewiring and Your Home Insurance
Some insurers raise rates on homes with knob-and-tube or other outdated wiring, or decline to cover them. Updated, permitted wiring can make coverage easier to get.
Rewiring and Selling Your Home
Buyers’ inspectors often flag old wiring, and that can stall a sale or knock down your price. A permitted rewire gives buyers confidence and gives you paperwork to show for it.

Home Rewiring FAQs
How long does it take to rewire a house?
It depends on the home’s size and access. A partial rewire may take a day or two, and a full rewire of a typical single-story home often takes several days. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.
Can I live in my home during rewiring?
In most cases, yes. We work room by room, so power stays on in the parts of the house we’re not working on.
Will you tear up my walls?
No. We run wiring through attics and crawlspaces wherever we can and keep wall openings small.
Is knob-and-tube wiring dangerous?
Knob-and-tube has no ground wire. After decades of heat and alterations, its insulation often becomes brittle. Many insurers won’t cover it, and most electricians recommend replacing it.
Can I just replace my two-prong outlets with three-prong ones?
Not without a ground or GFCI protection. A three-prong outlet with no ground is a code violation and a false sense of safety. We’ll show you the right fix.
Do I need a permit to rewire my house?
Yes. We pull permits and handle city inspections on every rewiring job.
Do I need a panel upgrade too?
Sometimes. If your panel is undersized or outdated, doing both at once usually saves time and money. See our electrical panel upgrade page.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Every job comes with our 1-year workmanship guarantee.
